I believe we all hunger for a deep spiritual experience, whether we realize it or not. The Lord created us not simply to know about Him, and do service for Him, but also to experience Him.That is why I want you to consider going with me this spring to the Journey to Wholeness, a five-day academy retreat in Little Rock.
Journey to Wholeness is an ecumenical five-day retreat designed for clergy and laity. The purpose is to deepen one’s relationship with God through a daily rhythm of prayer, worship, study and, reflection. Each day will include teachings by gifted spiritual leaders, periods of silence and reflection, morning and evening prayer, Eucharist and small group discussion. Time for rest and relaxation are also part of each day.
This retreat is part of the Academy for Spiritual Formation, started by the Upper Room. These are meaningful retreats held all over the country. You can see the various retreats and locations on their website here.
My husband, Cary and I attended a retreat held by the Louisiana Five-Day Academy in 2015. It could not have come at a better time for us. We had just soldiered through my diagnosis of cancer and the mastectomy that followed. It was a time when I needed to mend up physically, and Cary and I both needed to mend up spiritually and emotionally. We yearned for renewal. We are so grateful for the life-giving enrichment that bathed our souls while on this retreat.
The Journey to Wholeness retreat in April is supported by the United Methodist Conferences of Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas and through the Center for Ministry at Millsaps College.
Don’t let cost dissuade you from signing up. The Mississippi Conference sees the importance of spiritual formation in the lives of its people. To help encourage people to attend and to foster spiritual growth, the conference is offering to help defray a good portion of the tuition for many of the participants.
I hope you will prayerfully consider going on this retreat. We are hoping to have a group of eight to 10 people from Mississippi go. It will be April 15-20, 2018 at Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. The cost is $575 before Jan. 5, 2018, or $625 after Jan. 5, 2018. There are scholarships available through the Mississippi Conference. Clergy might consider using the remainder of this year’s continuing education monies for this time of spiritual enrichment.
If you are interested in going or would like to talk more about the retreat, I would love to hear from you. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org and my phone number is 601.832.3177.
Also, I will be happy to send you a scholarship application if you will send me your email address.
In His love and grace,
