At the 2017 Annual Conference Session, you learned that the Board of Medical Benefits will be conducting listening sessions for important legislation coming to the 2018 Annual Conference. The subject will be the study of the Post-Retirement Health Benefit available to clergy and lay employees who participate in the conference health plan and the related cost that is included in the Mission Shares and in the Board of Medical Benefits Budget.
Following are other concepts that will be shared:
- If the benefit is terminated, what future date should this occur? By setting a date in the future, participants who are nearing retirement and have planned on this credit being a part of their retirement package can make necessary decisions.
- How much additional funding will have to be collected so that the decreasing credit going forward can be funded out of the reserves on hand, if any?
- How can we help the participants who actually lose the benefit make provisions for the loss of this amount in their future retirement?
Following are the dates, times and locations for the listening sessions. The session should last one hour. All lay and clergy members of the 2018 annual conference should attend.

Greetings Fellow “Administry” Friends!
I am so happy to share with you about an upcoming event that I think will benefit your church whether you are a small congregation or a large church. The Southeastern Jurisdiction United Methodist Association of Church Business Administrators (SEJUMACBA) is having their education/fellowship event at Lake Junaluska beginning Sunday, April 30, 2017 and concluding Tuesday, May 2, 2017. We are so privileged to have Elaine and Frank Sommerville of the Dallas Texas area to be our guest speakers. Elaine is a certified public accountant (CPA) and Frank is a CPA and lawyer. They are definitely experts in the field of church administration and laws related to the work we all do. They are first and foremost good Christian people who love God and love resourcing the churches. I use their information on a daily basis both as I work and teach.
If having them is not a big enough treat, our own Rev. Dr. Connie M. Shelton, East Jackson District Superintendent, will be our spiritual leader. I am sure you will grow stronger in your relationship with God as Connie leads us those days.
Come prepared to rest from your daily work, grow in your spiritual walk with God and learn the right way to be a good administer. Here is the brochure with the registration and housing information.
I hope you will consider attending this great event. You will need to be at the Lake by 4:00 p.m. Sunday and prepare to depart Wednesday morning. If you have the time, you may just want to finish out the week with a few vacation days at the Lake! If you have any questions about this event, please contact me or Sherry Russum at Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church in downtown Jackson, Mississippi.
I am looking forward to seeing you there!
