It is that time of year when we begin the big push for United Methodist missionaries. It has been an exciting year.
We heard from a District Superintendent in Uganda, Africa. We do not know how he heard about us, but he states that he has eight (8) churches on some river in his district where the children have NEVER had anything given to them. “If they could get a shoe box, it would be the high light of the year for them.“ We told him we would need the coloring book telling the story of the birth of Jesus, translated into their local language. Two weeks later, he returned it translated!
Three weeks later, that same District Superintendent wrote that the United Nations had a refugee camp in his district filled with people fleeing South Sudan, where a civil ware is raging over oil in Southern Sudan. Since then he has increased his request to 5,000 shoe boxes. We want to thank the N GA Conference and the Mt. Lakes District, in the N-AL Conference, for taking Uganda this year. We have never shipped to Africa, but we are trying this year.
Last year N. GA filled about 2,000 and the MT. Lakes district filled about 1,500 that went to Methodist missionaries in Spanish speaking countries. It appears that we may run short 3,500 shoe boxes for Spanish speaking children. So there is a great need for new churches to join helping fill this gap.
Questions for out HUB churches:
- Do you have enough shoe box supplies?
- Can you reach out to other United Methodist Churches within 50, 60 or more miles of you so the children will have the story of the birth of Jesus?
This is the time to get things lined up. School starts back in one month. Can we get done what the Lord has give us to do?
See some pictures below from Ecuador that arrived five (5) months late. Use them anyway you can. What can we do to help you?
